The Paradox That Is Policing

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Or should that be The Hypocrisy That Is Politics?

First we get Camoron and Cruella cutting our find Police Service deeper than anybody ever thought possible, with the promise of more to come.  If Policing was the victim of violence you’d be considering turning off the Life Support Machine.

Compare this with the very same David Camoron demanding of Thames Valley Police “Why are you closing 7 Police Stations?  Can’t you save the money with back room efficiencies and working together?”

Over the past few weeks we have heard a new mantra “High Profile policing does not prevent crime” or “We don’t actually need as many Police on the streets”

Fast forward to Friday 13th “We are going to put more Police on the streets to keep you safe”.  The lunacy of that statement is staggering.

More Police – where are they coming from?  If you send PSUs to London (for example) you leave a void in Ruralshire, with limited opportunities for backfilling.

IF we can put more Police on the streets to keep us safe, many of them would need to be armed if they are to be a meaningful presence and not just Cannon a Fodder.  After all Kalashnikovs have no respect for blue serge.

Cruella is thinking of reducing the number of armed officers in favour of cross-border cooperation, a bit like the NPAS no doubt, and we all no how successful that policy has been.

I have read articles by people who should know what they are talking about that, not only do we not have enough armed officers, they are equipped with the wrong guns to contend with the scenario we saw in Paris last week.

Make no mistake, I am in no way criticising the enthusiasm, willingness or professionalism of our Police, I never will, but just like the Army in the Gulf and Afghanistan they have to be equipped with enough of the right equipment, and receive the appropriate level of training.

I read a perfectly decent article by Polly Toynbee this morning (Guardian I believe) it was quite unexpectedly one of the best assessments of the situation that I have read from our media in a long while, I recommend that you read it, here.

Finally, if you haven’t already done do, could you spare 2 minutes of your time and consider signing this Petition calling for an urgent review of Theresa May’s Policing Policies, and do feel free to share it far and wide.

I thank you.

  1. And we expect more from the Government?

    Has anyone being paying attention?

They have no concept of what the consequences of their policies will be.

  2. The following comment left on Facebook is well worth reading, from a member of the public

“The Toynbee article was fine and could have only happened because she spent time with Bedfordshire police. The government policy is a fiasco and shows total lack of grasp of the consequences of cuts. The cuts are all on paper and not considered how they translate into the real world. No joined up thinking. I hope Paris never happens here in London or the UK but as an ordinary member of the public I am very afraid.”
