Rest In Peace

Normally you would get a snipe at the government, sarcasm or plain anger from me in my blogs.  On this occasion you’ll get none of it.  I simply wish to record my utter respect for two young officers cut down in the prime of their lives.

They waved goodbye to their families and loved ones and went off to work for what I’m sure they thought was going to be a normal day.  They paraded, no doubt they were briefed and maybe even an Early Turn cup of tea was enjoyed before they set off on their final patrol.  Two bright young souls well-regarded by their colleagues doing the job they loved.  It could have been any of us.

I’m not going to dwell on HOW this happened, that will all become clear in the days and months ahead.  I’m not going to even hint at criticism of anybody because I for one don’t know the facts, only what I have learnt from the BBC News.  What I do know is that these two young officers were taken from our ‘family’, cruelly cut down whilst attending a routine ‘Burglary’ shout.

I cannot begin to get my head round the mentality of any person who could do what appears to have been done here yesterday, but these two officers died with their boots on, doing their job to the best of their ability.  We should be proud of them, it is people like them that make police officers what they are.  I never knew either of them but still I am aggrieved because we lost two of our family members yesterday, before their time.

We will never forget, and there but for the grace of whatever/whoever your god is go we.

GMP have set up a book of condolence which can be found here, please sign it if you will.

Rest in Peace Fiona and Nicola
